In this map, you can take a look at two remarkable patterns on Earth - ABOVE and BELOW sea level to view some fantastic patterns in nature.

The map was independently made and produced by a professional Geographer / Research Scientist using data commissioned by USGS and a consortium of state agencies. The survey was conducted with Sonar and LiDAR technology. This is the highest precision measurements ever used for surveying the San Francisco Bay area.

For the representation of the seafloor, a colorized raster was created to reveal the ripples along the seafloor from currents and wave actions. Dredged channels used for shipping are easily visible. Layered over the raster, a contour was added to display the depth at 20 meter intervals. Depth measurement points are provided all around the bay. The deepest section of the bay is just over 110 meters deep just west of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is the area where the tides rush in and out through the narrow channel gouging a deep troth.

On land, the highly detailed surface area is derived from LiDAR data. This data provides the surface measurements revealing features such as buildings, bridges, shorelines and the vast infrastructure around the metropolis of San Francisco.

The map was created for visual display and exploration.

Currently, this print is available in 22x28 inch unframed.
The map can be customized to your needs and expanded to reveal other parts of the bay.

This map was featured at GeoJango's Art Exhibition at the Bankhead Performing Art Center in Livermore, California in May 2015.
