HARRY POTTER WAND – Antique Sandwich Glass Pre-1900 – 130 x 10 mm – Glass Collectable – Rare Gold Dust Design
This SANDWICH GLASS WAND came from the personal collection of Richard Beale. It measures 130 x 10 millimeters, or approximately 5 x 1/2 of an inch. This isn't a normal rod. It contains genuine gold dust in the swirling pattern design. You'll have a great Harry potter type wand if you add a handle to this rod. Richard was the metalsmith and lapidary for the Sandwich Glass Museum through the early part of this century. He crafted gems and jewelry from antique Sandwich glass. Richard was encouraged to physically mine the Boston & Sandwich Glass Factory archaeological site for rare and experimental specialty glasses. He then used the glass that he found in his one-of-a-kind creations. Sandwich Glass of Sandwich Massachusetts (1825) introduced the making of pressed glass in 1827. Until then, all glass had either been blown or cast. The shaping of glass by molds made possible the production of many articles of the same pattern at a lower cost. Sandwich Glass then went on to become one of the premier workshops for the development of artistic and specialty glasses. Most all the Red and Gold colored glassware that was made by Sandwich Glass prior to 1900, used genuine gold in the manufacturing process. Gold was melted to make red in the red glass, while gold dust was used as it was. Sandwich Glass was known for its use of color. Gemstones can look different under different types of light. The redder background images were taken with incandescent house light while the other images used a Daylight LED light source. Sunlight is the best light to view most gemstones. Unfortunately, we rarely have sunlight and blue skies in Maine, so outdoor photos are nearly impossible to take. Our prices are at wholesale. A Gift box is included with this purchase.
