This is a very rare piece of Rosenthal porcelain. This "crawling boy" was designed by Specht-buchting in 1936 for Rosenthal. The porcelain baby boy was produced at the Selb Kunstabteilung factory. The sculpture has wonderful movement to it with boy reaching out towards you. It is very sweet. This figure has an unusual finish with a black staining that I am not sure is original or not. These sculptures are very rare and hard to find variations of. The baby is fully marked under one arm. He is model number 1618 and referred to as the "Crawling Boy" from the Kunstabteilung Art Department. He is missing the index finger of his right arm, otherwise he is in good condition as you can see in the photos. He measures 7 1/2" long by 4" tall by 5 1/2" wide.
