Selling an original abstract acrylic painting of the beach at Seaton Carew near Hartlepool. This painting is produced on 280g stretched canvas using gouache paints.
During the summer I would find myself walking the length of the beach at Seaton Carew. Due to the intensive mining which occurred in the past along the Durham coast the coal deposits and spoil would give the sand a black, charcoal, dogtooth appearance in places. The contrast of this against the dark, dank sand would remind me of early illustrations the author Clive Barker would use in his work.
My main inspiration for my work is architectural landscapes and I try not to draw or paint traditional postcard landmarks. I am a lecturer in Construction and the Built Environment and I use my work to hopefully online inspire my students.
