Old Ship's Compass, Boat Directional Compass, Airplane Compass, Gimbaled and Mounted Ritchie & Sons Massachusetts Salvage online

I was told this old online American directional compass was mounted on a ship, but I'm puzzled by the depiction of an airplane at true north on the compass face. The compass is gimbaled, and it rotates and floats freely and comes to north reasonably quickly. The domed glass is intact and secure, and the glass has some scratches and scuffs, The silver metal mount has no visible problems, and the black mounting bracket rotates and has 4 pre-drilled mounting holes so this can go into the cockpit dashboard or attach to any other vertical surface. It in working condition. It is gimbaled. The face is marked E.S. Ritchie & Sons, Inc. of Pembroke, Massachusetts. Edward Samuel Ritchie started in business in 1850, and his first order for 26 compasses for the US Navy came in 1861, and later he invented the liquid filled compass. In 1867 the company changed its name to E.S. Ritchie & Sons, and I think the company is still in business. The silver round mount is about 4 1/2" in diameter, the screws on each side are about 5 1/2" apart, and it's about 5 1/8" high when standing on the black metal bracket. It weighs about 1 3/4 pounds. In fair to good condition.
