Unique Lot of 2 Martha Graham Softcover 1961 by Karl Leabo published by Theatre Art Books, New York AND 4-Page Graham and Dance Company 1961 Brochure Pamphlet including photos and bios of the company. The book measures 9 x 9" and is unpaginated but heavily illustrated numerous photos and background and info about Graham, the famous dancer and choreographer. But what makes this special is the book came from the estate of artist Judith Godwin (1930-2021) the famous abstract painter. First page of book is inscription to Judith from a woman named Ana. We do not know who is Ana is. But she inscribes To the one whose been kissed by Martha - Love you Judith. And adds now its my turn. Not sure if she was referring to Judith or Martha and year this was written. Graham died in 1991.
Godwin and Graham were very close friends and some say more than just friends. Regardless, Godwin was heavily influenced by Graham and her work starting at a very young age - and openly discussed it. Please look up videos and numerous other articles with Godwin discussing Graham and her work. But whoever inscribed this book is obviously having fun. We have many items from the estate of Judith Godwin and certain of its authenticity (that online she was recipient of this book).
Condition is good light wear along edges and spine some scuffing. Pages some fading with age but spine is tight and pages are clean. Zoom in on pics as part of description.
