1930's French online Decalitre Metal Measuring Pitcher or Bucket, Farmhouse 10 Liter Milk Measuring Jug, French Steel Liquid Measure, Fab Patina!
A lovely large antique French metal measuring bucket, pitcher or jug sourced here in southern France from a recent farmhouse brocante and dating from around the 1930s.
It is made from steel with an overhead and back handle. It is stamped "Decalitre" - capacity 10 litres. Inside the bucket each litre is marked on the side - image 9.
The inscription - image - 3 translates to "For each litre the liquid must cover the corresponding mark/band."
This was essentially for measuring liquids whether in a farmhouse dairy or for measuring wine online, beer or water, etc.
A great decorative object with a perfectly rustic timeworn patina.
Perfect for flowers, driftwood or firewood, a lovely planter and so on!
Condition - In great vintage condition with signs of age and use. NB This is no longer watertight so use an inner reservoir if using for fresh flowers. This would be easy to remedy if desired with a circle of silicone applied to the base inside the rim which would not show from the outside.
Height - Max - 13", 33 cms, min - 10", 26 cms
Diameter - 9.1", 23 cms
Weight - 5.18 lbs or 2.34 kgs
