Color and texture, old and new come together nicely in this display box. The inlay on the lid reads "treasure" in shodo. The experience of opening a box, the wonder, the reveal, it's always enjoyable. This style adds just a little more interaction on your way to finding out what's inside. The tapered pin simply slides out to allow the lid room to open. This method was used on Japanese carpenters toolboxes centuries ago.
I made this one from pine reclaimed from 70+ year old door frames. The body is metallic hammered paint, reddish brown stain, and brass nails.
