Small hardcover boards, with leather spine, title and horizontal rules in gilt; exquisite frontispiece engraving showing young people and children examining shells on a table in front of a cabinet of natural history specimens.

"As is" Used condition; covers are scuffed, worn and stained; corner tips are bumped and chipped; rubbing and wear to head, tail and sides of leather spine; front free endpaper large tear out of lower right corner, with pencil writing and on verso; 1" split at bottom of hinge from free front endpaper thru frontis; frontispiece piece out of lower left corner and tiny tear midway up left border, verso pencil poem or dedication, title-page with shadow from frontis; pp. 139 - 142 lower corner off, some text lacking; few page folds; some foxing, smudging and sunning of page papers; rear online hinge cracked, some loss of material; rear free endpaper lacking and rear pastedown some pencil writing.
