Product code: Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver Hinged Bangle Bracelet Signed by Taxco Silversmith TM-143, Modern Clamper Shadowbox online Interlocked Circle Motif

This is a beautiful vintage all-Sterling hinged opening bangle bracelet. It was handmade in in the historic center of Mexico's silver industry, the town of Taxco in the state of Guerrero. The hollow bangle body is “half-round” in profile, with a stamped interlocking circle design around the outside. Accenting the surface decoration are cut-out areas open to the blackened inside for a shadowbox effect. The closure fastener is a box clasp, and a short safety chain provides additional security.

Size: the bangle body is about 9/16 inch wide. The bracelet when closed is very slightly oval in shape, with the shorter inside diameter measuring about 2-1/4 inches, and the longer diameter measuring about 2-3/8 inches. The fine safety chain is about 1-3/4 inches long. When opened fully, the long inside diameter is about 3-3/16 inches across. The bracelet's weight is about 50 grams (1.6 Troy ounces).

Material: Sterling silver.

Marks: an oval maker's mark stamped on the inside surface reads “TM-143 / MEXICO” around the outside, with “925” in the center. The “TM-143” government registration mark indicates that this piece was made in Taxco, sometime after about 1980 by an unidentified silversmith or workshop with a name starting with M (the 143rd Taxco maker to register with the initial M). Due to registration records being largely unavailable, identifying lesser-known silversmiths is often not possible.

Age: this bracelet is estimated to date to the 1980s.

Condition: this bracelet in in very good vintage condition, with the tiny dents and fine scratches, visible under magnification, typical of well-cared-for moderately used silver jewelry. The box online clasp is in good working order. The outward surfaces are fairly bright, with a slightly satiny surface.
