This hand fan has highly detailed images hand painted across the white feathers in its array. The tops of the feathers have the eyes of peacock feathers attached. The staves of the fan are thin strips of carved bone. Where the feather attaches to the staves, string has been wound and glued down to likely repair the joins.
The fan's span is 19 inches and it is approximately 12 inches long. There is a thin silk tassel attached at the base.
Other faults are age-related including some loss of the plumage to the tips of the peacock feathers, and general dust staining on the feathers. Please see all pictures and note that the peacock feathers on the left side of the fan are the most threadbare.
Caution and care should be exercised when opening and closing the fan so the feathers don't snag together and break.
Despite the faults in this piece, the fan would make a great backdrop in a display or could online be mounted in a frame.
