Product code: Trade bead bracelet with antique online Yoruba mock coral and Turkmen silver

This bracelet features lovely and rare beads. The deep red beads are from the Yoruba people. These were made to resemble coral. Genuine coral is a high status object in Yoruba culture (and some shapes were only worn by chiefs) but it is rare and expensive. So a method was developed to make beads that resemble genuine coral - by adding a bit of grinded true coral to the glass paste. It works out very well. The beads have an organic look and their color is a rich, deep red. The beads in this bracelet are well worn and acquired a beautiful patina over the years. A rare find.

They go great with the old silver, The bead with the bulbs is an old Turkmen bead, a so called 'sputnik' bead:) The other larger beads are Berber silver, the sturdy rings are antique and collectible Yemeni beads.
The large tubular bead is a great lapis bead from Afghanistan. It has pyrite inclusions. I love this 'fools gold' in lapis. The blue donut bead is an antique bead from Germany, middle 1800's. The striped discs are so called "Aja" trade beads. These are Venetian made beads that were altered in Africa: larger beads were sliced, for great effects in jewelry pieces. It was the tribe of the Era or Aja people who liked the beads better this way.
And lastly, a fabulous old wound bead from Venice: the focal striped bead. I totally love this one, its deep saturated colors, and the simple design, that is still pretty fresh, though the bead has had a long life (made middle 1800's). A typical collectors bead.
The ringlets were made with beads that were worn by the women hunters of the Bonda tribe of Northern India. These women went hunting, wearing masses of monochrome necklaces made up with these beads for protection.

An eye catcher with great, uncommon beads.

SIZE: it is a SMALL bracelet: it measures approx. 5.9 to 6.4 inches (15 to 16.2 cm). See pictures for dimensions. If you need more length, I can add more silver rings at a small extra cost.

The bracelet comes in a nice eco friendly jewelry box, ready for gifting.
