Presented today is a marvelous vintage brooch. It is designed with sterling silver and jet black Chrysoprase carved stone. This fabulous hefty onyx brooch depicts the classical Aztec warrior mask which is set in its own custom piecrust bezel and adorned all around with silver rope and a headdress made of sterling silver raindrops.
Hallmarks: It is signed by the creator, Diaz Santoyo and marked CJB, inside a circle reading HECHO EN MEXICO PLATA 925. This very talented artist is featured on page 174 of the Bille Hougart reference book THE LITTLE BOOK OF MEXICAN SILVER TRADE AND HALLMARKS, 2006 EDITION. It was made before the Mexican government mandated Eagle hallmark system was established in the 1940's.
Measurements:2” tall by 1 & 3/4" wide by 3/8” thick.
Weight: A full 26.8 grams!
Condition: The brooch features a simple c-clasp. The pin is not perfectly straight, but does hold securely to a medium weight or heavier fabric. Absolutely no damage or chips to the stone.
