Attractive Inuit stone loon carving in striated stone.
Dappling along neck and back.
The carving is likely from Kuujjuarapik (Great Whale River) or Sanikiluaq, although the stone appears denser than most of the argillite we typically see from these two areas.
Unilingual online tag helps to date the carving to 1965 -1975.
Signed on the underside in Inuktitut syllabics reading mi-a- ji (a common way of spelling Mary) followed by i-a-si-pa-ja-u (Eliasiapik??)
