Mini Roadrunner from Santa Clara Pueblo
This is an energetic Santa Clara mini blackware roadrunner figurine. This was traditionally fired & smoked in the syle of Santa Clara; this Pueblo is famous for their blackware pottery. It was made by husband and wife team Paul and Dorothy Gutierrez, who lived in Santa Clara Pueblo. It measures approx 2.25" H x 2.5" L x 1.5" D. His body is all in polished black. Paul and Dorothy Gutierrez had a long collaboration making small clay animals and mudheads for decades. Dorothy handbuilt the animals of native clay, and Paul stone polished each piece. They were married in1965. Dorothy is of a Navajo heritage (b.1940). Paul, was from Santa Clara Pueblo (1936-2017.) They earned numerous awards including: Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show, Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Museum Guild Indian Art Fair & Market and the Gallup Intertribal.
