Antique Sterling Silver online Natural Butterfly Wing Convex Estate Brooch

This fabulous antique brooch contains a real butterfly wing displayed under a convex glass dome that magnifies the shimmering colors and accentuates the markings. We're not sure what kind of butterfly has the subtle iridescent blues, greens, whites, tans and browns that are on display here, but we do know how mesmerizing it can be to gaze at the wing as it changes colors depending on the viewing angle. Just amazing!

Condition: Used. The sterling silver has a lovely natural patina that you can polish back to its original shine if you prefer. We list it this way because many vintage collectors prefer the natural aged patina. As with many vintage pieces, there is some surface wear due to age and use.

Fun Fact: Thomas L. Mott (also known by "TLM") was an English jewelry maker during the 1870s, and is known for popularizing natural butterfly wing jewelry. A surge in the demand for butterfly wing jewelry rose in the 1920s after a collection of pieces were shown at the 1924 British Exposition.
