Three Intriguing Photographs of Nineteenth Century Miners Excavating with Hand Tools, Horses, Carts. 10" by 8" online Antique Albumen Circa 1880s.
Three Intriguing Historical Photographs of Nineteenth Century Miners Excavating with Hand Tools, Horses, Carts. 10" by 8" Antique Albumen Photos. All 3 photos are included, as shown. These are original, authentic antique photographs, not modern copies.
I am dating this to circa 1880s, based on the clothing, equipment and the type of photograph.
Albumen paper became the most widely used photographic printing material about 1855, and remained so until 1895, and gradually disappeared by around 1900 or so.
PHOTO SIZE: 12" by 10"
IMAGE AREA: about 10" by 7.5"
Please note that there is some fading to the images. I did not use flash, nor did I darken the images unless noted on the photo.
These photographs have expected silvering in areas, and that appearance helps support the age of the photographs.
There is wear, some chipping, etc along the edges. The photo boards are very slightly curved, which (in my experience) is normal for photo mounted card-boards.
The photos are clean, and the backs are clean. Two have a dark back side, and the other has a light back side.
I regret that I have no information as to where these images were taken. I wish I knew, they are very intriguing and knowledge of the location would be a plus for historians.
I am in Chicago, and purchased these from someone who does estate clean outs in this area. He had no information for me, sadly.
I online can add that southern Illinois had lead, zinc and a lot of coal mines back in the day. This could possibly be from there, but again, this is a guess.
