19thC Linen Door Panel
Homespun Linen
Hand-sewn
Lancaster County, PA
Going through the show towels again. While not as spectacular as some previously listed, it is yet another different example of decoration. With this one having two rows of fringe at the bottom, it is plain yet “fancy”.
The top panel is framed online by fringe complementing the bottom. It's really all about the fringe on this towel.
The cross-stitching on the top panel is minimal. There are small geometric motifs, and the initials “PM” along with a central tulip tree.
Measuring 19 inches wide from hemmed edge to selvage and 55 inches long, condition is very good with signs of wear attendant with age and use/storage. The fabric is strong yet supple. Please see photos as they are part of the description.
This is a good piece to add to a “study” collection of this form of Pennsylvania German textile folk art.
