This one is a collector's piece. Or an experimenter's item.
JGES was formed out of the J.G. Escher company back in the online 1920s. They made, mostly, synthetic stones. This one's name - Reform Brocken - translates to reformed chunks/pieces.
Presumably, this was fabricated from left over pieces or dust from when they cut up Coticule slabs into hones. When wet, you can catch a whiff of damp Coticule. The stone feels rough on the back side and the tan stamped surface feels smoother. I have been told that these do not compare favorably to natural Coticules, so I did nto lap and test it. It is a piece of history, a conversation piece, a bit for an Escher collection. These are hard to come by, and they are usually beat up. This one appears to be unused and it is in very good shape.
