Fine Wooden Scales for the Benchmade Mini Bugout 533 used for EDC.
If you're like me you enjoy carrying an small pocketknife for everyday carry (EDC). After I recently lost my previous EDC while climbing I evaluated a few new knives and eventually found that the mini bugout 533 or 533BK-1 were the best from the quality of the blade to the size of it folded down.
My only complaint was that the stock scales look way too "tactical" for my taste. I couldn't find anything great online, so I designed and made them for myself.
These wooden scales look more online like a "gentleman's" knife and are mechanically identical to the stock plastic scales.
They currently come in teak, Osage Orange, White Oak, Black Walnut, Jatoba, Sapele and Olive woods. Let me know if you'd like them made in another wood type.
Some reasons you might choose one wood over another apart from its aesthetics might be its Janka Hardness Rating:
White Oak - 1,350 lbf (5,990 N)
Osage Orange - 2,620 lbf (11,640 N)
Black Walnut - 1,010 lbf (4,490 N)
Jatoba - 2,690 lbf (11,950 N)
Sapele - 1,410 lbf (6,280 N)
Olive - 2,700 lbf (12,010 N)
Wenge - 1,930 lbf (8,600 N)
