Love to play games? Our Cribbage Boards are second to none!! I actually grew up playing cribbage every night with my father and uncle - so it excites me to be making my very own premium line of boards that I can be proud play on with my daughter!!

The base is 11.5" online in diameter and typically between 1.125" and 1.25" thick. The base is made in an edge grain style (just like cutting boards) using premium hardwoods like Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Cedar, Red and White Oak. In an effort to "Go Green" we use a lot of our hardwood cutoffs and re-claimed local hardwoods in producing these cribbage bases. In the center of the base we have carved a recess to house both a deck of cards and the three sets of high grade metal pegs (YES - both cards and pegs are included with each cribbage board base). The playing track contains three paths of 120 spots to accommodate 2, 3 or 4 player games. We have also inset a pair of rare earth magnets to securely hold our premium lid to the base during play or simply for display.

The lid included in this listing is "The Hunt" and is beautiful in it touches of hand painted color!! This design features a retriever who just brought back his master's catch. The entire design then has a circle perimeter and can have your text added (we have blurred out the name on the photos for privacy of our previous customers identity). We hand paint and stain every piece ensuring a totally unique finish every time. Please Note -- pictures are usually taken of the last customers board and your custom game board may vary slightly due to wood grains and subtle differences in finishing. No two ever look identical! The Lids measure 8.25" in diameter and fit perfectly in the recessed portion of our cribbage board base. Magnets then hold it securely in place while playing or just decorating your favorite coffee table.

The text on this anchor lid can also be personalized with your family name or any text up to 40 characters.

Yes, you can request completely custom lids as well!! We can design a lid to suit your needs. Want your Company Logo - Favorite Team - Favorite Pastime... not a problem just message us and we will design one just for you. The cost for custom design work in most cases is between $15.00 and $30.00.

Please note: While we use a CNC to machine each board to within .01" tolerance levels the thickness of each base can vary slightly based on the stock that we use once you have ordered. This will not effect how the lid fits!! We hand make and finish every piece at time of order to ensure you receive the best product with our full attention to your order...

So now after this long description, you might be wondering: What is Cribbage?

The Basics of Cribbage:

Dealing

To start the game, both players cut the deck, and whoever draws the lowest card is the first dealer. The deal alternates for each hand in the game thereafter.

For every hand, the dealer shuffles the entire deck and offers the cards to the opponent to cut. The dealer then deals six cards face-down, one at a time, to both players and puts the rest of the deck, or the stock, in the middle of the playing surface.

Each player picks up the six dealt cards and discards two cards face-down from the six. Those four cards go into the crib, forming a third hand of four cards that the dealer gets to score. (However, the four cards in the crib play no part in the first phase of the game in which the cards are played out.) The dealer now has two hands with which to score points, as opposed to the opponents one hand.

Cutting the deck

After both players decide which four cards to keep, the opponent cuts the remaining cards of the stock, and the dealer turns over the top card of the cut deck to reveal the up card, or starter. This card essentially becomes part of all three hands — the dealer's, the opponent's, and the crib. The starter card doesn't take any part in the playing out of the hand, though.

If the up card is a jack, the dealer scores 2 points, known as two for his heels. The dealer must claim and record these points before any cards are played.

Recording the score

The object of the game is to go around the two tracks (or rows) the same way a horse goes around an oval in a horse race, completing the circuits before your opponent does. Each point you score advances you one space, so you need 121 points to complete your journey and win the game.

Players each use two pegs to record their points. When you score your first points of the game, you put one peg on the board, and as you score subsequent points, you hop over the leading peg with the trailing peg so that the board always shows how many points you recorded on your last score. Beginning from the start, you move up the outside part of the track and then back down the inside track.
Reaching the finishing post

When you're nearing the end of the game, you often find that a general strategy for preventing your opponent from pegging out, or winning, overrides what's otherwise the optimum strategy. If you're in the lead, you must play cautiously; if you're behind, you need to go all out for the win.

Say, for example, that both players have 100 points, and you're the dealer with Q, 8, 7, 2, 5, 8. You keep 8, 8, 7, 2 and throw the queen and 5 into your crib for 15 points. When a 6 comes up as the starter, you realize immediately that you have 14 points in your hand (6 combined with an 8) and a promising crib. You're the favorite to win, because you only need to scrape up a few points from the play. What's more, as pone on the next deal, you have the first hand of the next game to count as well if you don't make it to 121 on this hand. So, you must avoid giving away points, and you tackle the play as cautiously as possible. On the lead of an 8, you play your 2 rather than an 8, assuming that your adversary has another 8. If he could play an 8 to make a pair royal, the 6 points would be worth much more to him than the 2 points for the pair are worth to you.

Instructions are included and a simple google search will provide you with a much more in-depth look at the game :)
