A great baby bag for the artsy Mom-to-be in your life!


I can never resist a great piece of toile! The unusual pairing of pink and green in this example was irresistible and became the starting point for this bag. My aim in making a baby bag was to hit the right balance of form and function.

First comes the function part. I chose a bag construction that lends itself to the task of providing a place for all the things the new Mom would need online. My baby bag has 3 exterior pockets and 6 interior pockets. The roomy interior (see all bag dimensions below) leaves plenty of room for non-baby essentials as well as a removable bag base insert that gives the bag more shape and strength.. Sides of the bag are gusseted and can be snapped for a more compact profile. Magnetic snapped tabs at top of the bag hold contents secure while providing easy fast access to necessities.


Now, the fun part! I used a fabulous vintage lightweight celery green corduroy for the front, back and lining of the shoulder straps. The side pockets are a fun green/white leopard print. A bit of treasured silk damask from my stash (purchased years ago on my maiden voyage to Mood Fabric in NYC) is used for the front overlay and all interior and exterior pocket accent trim. The toile shows up as the center front, the side gussets, exterior back pocket, interior and interior pockets and shoulder straps. The front of the bag features a lovely bit of vintage pink and cream hand crocheted lace as well as a knitted rose. The danglies on the front of the bag are an adorable pair of baby sock/booties that I converted into “charms” along with some wonderful, ribbons, trims and alphabet letter beads.

Use the bag for its purpose. Enjoy, and know that as it is with LIFE, things will get dirty. I recommend spot clean only and embracing the appreciation of an item well-used, well-loved and quite possibly imperfect as a result.
