This fabulous cake stand starts it's life as two huge slabs of white clay, rolled out by me and impressed with my handmade stamps. When leather-hard the clay is cut into two pieces and attached with slip. The brim of the cake stand is then cut to create the frilled edge and holes are pushed out. I then cover the cake stand with a few layers of plastic sheeting so it can dry very slowly for a few weeks to prevent online cracking. When completely dry the stands are fired to 1000c. Next the cake stand is washed with grey underglaze in the impressed areas and dotted with a rainbow of underglaze paints to create the effect of confetti on a lacy tablecloth.
A lovely glossy glaze is painted all over the stand and it is fired to 1140c.
Finally mother of Pearl lustre is fired over the stand. This gives a beautiful shell like vintage look.
This stunning cake stand will look fabulous as a centre piece to any event from wedding to birthdays!
